Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Diem Ardelis is an anxious dragon. She scares easily and prefers to have at least one other dragon with her whenever she hunts, sleeps, or is otherwise vulnerable. To some this seems excessive and cowardly, but she has a good amount of friends who accept this about her and support her need for security. As a companion, she is very loyal and accommodating. She feels the need to take care of those who take care of her and always do for others what they would do for her.
