Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Unlike the other hatchlings, this one hatched with wings.

And look! Its back legs have become a second set of wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Cloudborne can be a surprisingly arrogant and stubborn hatchling.  Seemingly unable to tolerant his unfrozen siblings largely bumbling abilities to fly, he spends much time showing off and taunting the younger dragons with his admittedly supreme flying skills until his father puts his foot down on Cloudborne's misbehaving.  Able to outfly even some of the adults in the cave, Cloudborne never backs down from an aerial race.  He hero-worships Avron, his grandfather, but because of Cloudborne's attitude the elderly Skywing outwardly refuses to acknowledge his grandson's existence, much to the little frozen hatchling's disgruntlement.
