Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A human had been killing off members of Kauth's clan. The only pattern Kauth and his fellow dragons could find to the killings was that the dead dragons had family trees that resembled family bushes and were childless. So, when Kauth saw a human sneaking up on him he flew out of his cave and into the wilderness, dodging the knife that was thrown at him. Months passed while he was wandering the wilderness outside his old clan's territory when he happened across a Rosebud dragon, Hisith. She was also from his clan and had fled for the same reason as Kauth. Their relationship was initially one of convenience—surviving on one's own was difficult after being used to working together in a clan but, one Valentines the two of them got close, and now that they have children it is safe for them to return to their original home.
