Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It sleeps through most of the day, but almost never leaves your side when awake.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This hatchling is extremely shy, but made friends with a bridgekeeper after being helped by her. When learning to fly, he flew into a poorly lit bridge spanning a channel between the mainland and an island, injuring his wing. The bridgekeeper nursed him back to health.

Brijlyte now lives under the bridge, coming out in the evening to help keep the bridge better lit at night. The bridgekeeper keeps him well fed so that he has no reason to leave his post. On the rare occasions that he does, he enjoys flying over the calm channel waters to see the reflection of his wings in them.
