Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Guardian of Sorrow sat alone in a corner of the cave. The other hatchlings laughter seemed to taunt him, but despite that he sat tall. All the others had a life to look forward to but Guardian of Sorrow didn't know what he was put onto the earth for. He never fought them back and always tried to keep the peace although almost no one would listen to him. The hatchlings scattered blending into their surroundings. Guardian of Sorrow sat very still but the human came closer. He turned around and stared into her gray-blue eyes. Her hair was a dark auburn and she stared back with no fear in her eyes. "Come, come home with me little one" she said in perfect dragon tongue and with that she turned around expecting him to follow. At that moment Guardian of Sorrow knew he finally knew he had a future. It was to protect and guard this girl. Holding his head up high he walked out of the cave to his new destiny.
