Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Vampyriss views her existence with a grim humor. As a Vampire, she has long been undead. When Halloween began to near, she watched its coming with greater ambivalence than most dragons. Many feared it as a day when fearsome monsters might cross the veil between the realm of the living and the dead, a day when necromancers put their dark magicks to use- a day when humans would kill dragons and attempt to resurrect their bodies as puppets for their evil plans.

Vampyriss didn't fear as many dragons did. She believed that, as an undead Vampire, she couldn't truly be killed. She'd died in the egg, after all, and she'd been dead ever since.

Or so she thought...

The day of Halloween was lost from her memory. That's the only way she knows that she died; her assumption is that she was killed the day before during the daylight hours, when she was peacefully slumbering in the sheltered darkness of her cave. She only woke again in the darkness of Halloween night to the sound of incantations.
