Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It doesn’t seem to like the attention its shininess attracts, but it loves shiny things.

And look! With its new scales, it’s even shinier! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This hatchling is learning what works and what does not.

She tried stealing letters throughout the year to leave with a 'lucky' recipient. Unfortunately, there were a lot of bills and legal notices in the collection as she was not yet able to read. The community was in a bit of an uproar trying to figure out who caused all the missed mail.

Her next attempt was at stealing loaves of bread. When delivered, most of the bread was overly stale and moldy.

When she snitched single fresh flowers from vases containing bunches, there was less consternation over what went missing. However, upon delivery, the flowers were all shriveled and wilted.

Her latest series of thefts involved single socks. In this case, some of the socks actually made it back to their original owners when the pile was set out for folks within the community to help themselves.

Recently it seems she is collecting cookingware from kitchens. Someday perhaps she will hoard something that brings her recipients love.
