Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Crimson Sash was originally born under another name, Frilled Chaos, but in her younger days she got into a terrible battle defending the cave and fought ferociously. In the battle she was dealt a terrible injury, a deep gash across her chest. In looking back the injury should have killed her, but she fought on. She led all the other dragons to a stunning victory. All the other dragons claim it was the sight of the crimson sash she wore across her chest that inspired them all, and so her name changed. The injury left her with years of recovery, and an infection she got during that time left her permanently weakened, but she retained her ability to inspire and she is an amazing military tactician.
