Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Jet Black Dorkface takes pride in his lineage—others have finer, but his name is very valuable to him. He only wishes to defend the glory of that name. He soars with wings spread wide, head pointed forward, to look dignified. As a warrior, battle is a necessary part of his honor, and Jet feels he must protect those members of the Flight too weak to help themselves. He wouldn't call himself a "knight in black scales," but others have for his manners and nobility.

One of those is Conjectrix, who wants to force Jet into the role of the perfect fairytale knight. While he doesn't want to break Conjectrix's heart by being too harsh, Jet wants nothing to do with it, and especially not with the "damsel" Hasijna that Conjectrix tries to make Jet's mate. These efforts are near-constant and aggravating. Jet has deep feelings for another dragon, Janthina, but he couldn't bear pulling her into this by admitting his feelings. Instead, he stands ready to aid and protect her as her noble warrior.
