Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Jabberwocky is the adopted hatchling of Igor.  It is the opinion of the other white dragons of BD71's cave that being a white dragon probably saved Jabber from her intended fate, but they don't begrudge her strange family arrangement with Igor.  Another failed 'experiment,' she fills an instinct for Igor that Frankenstein can't.  The tiny white baby sometimes suffers the jealous snaps of Frank's spiked tail or broken teeth, but the scratches heal as though they never were.  When Igor snatches her away from the mean-spirited neglected dragon and drops her into her protective glass pen, Jabber simply beams up at her mother with crystalline blue eyes and plays on as though nothing could ever be wrong in her world, nor will she ever be told any differently.  She will remain frozen in baby form for all time, and she can be as weird and different as she wants to be.
