Moonstone Dragons are named after the orb on their tails, which resembles the gem of the same name. They are nocturnal and gather energy through the absorption of moonlight with their orbs. They seem to glow with a lunar light and are a very gentle breed, feeding off of plants and the moons’ power.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When Caspian Nuria had grown up, Ember Nuria, the dragon's companion, noticed that he was spending more and more time in the Lake of Elgar with Fyren of the West, one of Flight's dragons.  Ember decided that from then on, she would only raise dragons that would be happy in her home on the mountain top, dragons that loved high places and flying. One day, Ember was walking on a moonlit path at night, when she spied a sparkling stone-like object. She brought it home, and later discovered that it was an egg. The egg hatched into a mild-tempered, blue, male dragon with a small orb on the end of its tail. Ember named it Koray, and took it to visit her friend Flight. Koray quickly make friends with Flight's Electric dragon, Lythrblak of Thunder Storms. After watching Lythrblak make lightning for him, Koray discovered that he could glow! Koray continues to live with Ember on the tallest mountain of Elgar, and he is often seen lighting up the night sky with his bright glow.
