Script Dragons are named for the markings along their wings and sides that look almost like calligraphy. The patterns correspond to no known language, and are slightly different on every dragon. These dragons only develop the characteristic markings when they reach maturity, and they are fairly capable with magic once the patterns appear.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Fanil seems to be one of the nicer Runescales, at least at first. He's always ready with a sympathetic ear and kind word for dragons who need someone to talk to about their problems. However, he's not as altruistic as he might seem. Fanil will nod, smile, and make sympathetic noises, while thinking about thinking about how to turn the situation to his own benefit, or, failing that, to cause harm to others. His advice should never be followed.
