Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Adriennah was given a girl's name, after his parents mistook him for one before he actually gendered. Naturally, when Adriennah became old enough to understand this, he became immensly mean and sour, which he still is. His parents, Scuro Fin and Etrana, wanted to name him 'Adrian', which means 'the dark one'. Adriennah was a suitable girl name that still meant the same thing. Of course, whenever someone calls him Adriennah, he threatens to beat them to a pulp, and he seldom doesn't. The two white dragons, White Wind and Sky Wind, try their best to calm him and keep him away from the young, but they have a lot of trouble doing so.
