Frilled Dragons are smaller than most other breeds, but when threatened, they stretch out their wings and frills to appear larger. They generally do not like to fight and prefer hiding to confrontation. Frilled dragons live in small groups and often band together to scare off potential threats. Males also use their frills as a way to attract mates, with those displaying the “best” frills being more likely to breed.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Honah used to live by the coast, an unusual spot for a Frilled dragon, but he'd always been a bit adventurous. In the autumn, he enjoyed flying around in the morning mists by the water with one of his best friends: a Paper dragon named Jack. Together, they would often explore the seas. Rather than use their wings, they would travel by boat because it was much more fun; Honah would even allow Jack to sit upon his tail, where he could keep watch for pirates.

Dragons seem to live forever, but Honah's enchanted friend was not a living thing. Little Jack the Paper dragon had somehow lost his enchantment, and no longer was held together by magic; he completely unfolded into pieces of paper, which blew away in the coastal winds.

Sadly, Honah did not know this and waited for his friend to show up. Days passed and there he sat, still waiting patiently at the shore. After a full month had gone by, he finally gave up and out of sadness, decided to move far away into the depths of a jungle cave.
