Magma Dragons are capable of withstanding the intense temperatures of their element. They live in volcanic regions, their bodies coated in the red hot magma which clings to their scales. They must leave the lava fields in order to hunt, although they require surprisingly little food to sustain their lumbering mass.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Lavabather is not a generally happy dragon, preferring instead to bare her teeth and assert her dominance, but oh, she was joyful when at last, at last, the Great War broke out and she could fight against and kill those long-lined or inbred dragons who had annoyed and picked at her. She saved the bones of some of the more irritating of the dragons she killed, keeping them in her personal cave partially as a warning to the subjects of the new Weyr of Flame and partially to remind herself of the taste of their blood in her teeth. As second-in-command of the new Weyr, she is mainly in charge of helping Flameflow, her mate and the leader, with his various duties, and she is entirely in charge of educating their hatchlings, as they will one day inherit the Weyr. In secret, Lavabather has a long-standing affair with Demonshade, a Hellfire Wyvern; she loves her mate Flameflow for his ambition and his mind, but she just can't stay away from Demonshade, either...
