Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nightmare is so named because tales of her powerful battle magic have been the inspiration for terrible dreams. She is quite proud of her reputation, especially as it is what finally earned her the attention of her now mate. When she first saw her mate, Spin, he was surrounded in a ball of magical darkness. Curious as to what could be causing a ball of shadow in the sky, she flew up to investigate, only to discover what she considered to be a very handsome dragon in the center of the darkness. She was immediately smitten, but Spun was not so quick to return her affection. Desperate to prove herself a worthy mate, she trained hard to become a better warrior until she rose up in the ranks. Finally, Spin noticed her, but by that point, Nightmare had many admirers. Worried that he might not be able to gain her attention then, he pushed his own training. That dynamic still defined their relationship, with the one always inspiring the other.
