Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Even though he was adopted from abandonment, some of the dragons in the Sylvain clan find Yojinbo a bit stuffy because of the gold and silver in his lineage. This is only exacerbated by his effectively being the clan's babysitter of the younger dragons when the clan gathers with other families for festivals featuring contests of strength and skill. Jin keeps an eye on the more rambunctious dragons and breaks up any rivalries that look to come to blows, helping maintain good clan relations and prevent the festival sites from burning down. No one quite knows how he was landed with the job, but most attribute it to the unnerving stare Jin has perfected over years of dealing with reckless siblings.
