Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Tatyana Nuria was the second dragon to be hatched in the Treasure Craze. She was raised, like her older "sister" Lohita, mainly for her eggs. Soon, Lohita became angry at this, and she demanded to raise Tatyana herself. Ember allowed Lohita to raise the hatchling, as she was busy with raising the many Christmas dragons she had found. Lohita became like a mother to Tatyana, and loved and nurtured her "little jewel" as she called Tatyana. The name Tatyana means silver-haired, as her scales were sparkling silver. Gandalf Nuria became like a father to Tatyana, and assured her that this phase of Ember's would soon pass. He told her she was loved, and it was true. Many dragons loved the tinsel "family", and Oriata Nuria, a Christmas dragon, became great friends with Tatyana. And yet, the Treasure Craze continued.
