Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Third Prize is the first male bronze tinsel to be born into his family and kept within the clan. His mother had been proud of her near perfect lineage and was dismayed whenever she had anything but a bronze daughter, so had been abandoning her children to save face.

The Cave Mistress put a stop to this and raised Third Prize herself. Although he was raised with love and care and quickly accepted into the clan, Third Prize is sorrowful he birth mother does not accept him.
