Nebula Dragons are nocturnal creatures. With the best eyesight to be found, they are often seen staring into space. Each dragon tends to observe a particular nebula and will eventually change their colors and patterns to match it. As the nebula changes over time, the dragon changes with it. The more intricate the design of the nebula, the better chance an individual has of attracting a mate. It is said that the markings on no two Nebula Dragons will be exactly the same.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Deabeel's nebula is the Dumbbell Nebula, also known as the Apple Core Nebula. He started observing this nebula when he was a hatchling, as it was one of the easiest to spot for his wandering eyes. Deabeel's vibrant green patterns are outlined by bright reds and splashes of yellow, almost like paint splashes, and so Deabeel's affectionate nickname is 'Paint.' Deabeel has a very quiet nature, and usually won't speak unless someone makes the effort to speak to him first, but if they do then he will talk for hours on end about the subject. He has a philosophical side, and will, when speaking without somebody else starting the conversation, talk about the more complex things in life, such as the Higgs Boson, or atom splitting. Deabeel's quiet nature endears him to many, as he acts as a rock in times of strife, or a bubble of calm when things get too rowdy around the cave he and his friends live in.
