Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s very curious and fond of sweets.

And look! It has grown feathers! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Skippy Sweetums was recruited by Lilltle Vi (who has a little spelling problem) into the ever-growing brigade of frozen hatchlings of the clan. He enjoys her company as much as that of the other hatchlings and finds it easier than most of them to reach the hidden stashes of sweets other dragons might want to keep for themselves since he can squeeze through openings only the pygmies can otherwise use. If flying is required to reach a particular treat, Skippy will take the post of look-out to warn the other hatchies with his calls.

More often than not Skippy can be found on a sugar high after the hatchlings' latest raid, jumping and skipping through the cave.
