This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Redoj views Nxako Wxejk as her adoptive mother. Her egg was chosen with Dark's permission, and Nxako was ecstatic when the egg changed. She doted on that egg, protecting it and warming it and hissing threateningly whenever a dragon, even another of her Family, came near it. The egg was late to hatch, but when it finally did, Nxako named the new hatchling Bdisbco Redoj ('Knuckle Bones'). Despite the fact that Nxako is over-protective of her, Redoj still manages to get into lots of trouble. She is a spunky, opinionated hatchling, and most of the time she manages to say things that are completely inappropriate for the situation. She apologizes afterwards, but usually not before she ends up chased around the cave by the dragon or dragons that she has offended. Redoj has hope that Nxako will stop being quite so protective of her once she has more adopted children to pay attention to.
