It’s an undead baby dragon, produced by a failed magical spell. It probably would be cute if it weren’t partially decayed.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The Dread Pirate Westley leads a somewhat repetitive, if interesting life. Every morning, when the rest of the dragons in the cave wake, they are disgusted to find this stinking pile of rotting dragon somewhere within their cave. And so every morning upon finding Westley, they carefully (with as little touching as possible) drag his then-lifeless body outside the cave and dump it unceremoniously a sufficient distant to prevent the smell from wafting back to their cave. Unfortunately, every night when Westley wakes, he does so with an insatiable hunger and rage, and trundles back to the cave in search of food. Fortunately for the other dragons, Westley did not develop teeth before becoming a zombie, so all he ever manages to accomplish is cause some somewhat wet bruises on some of the softer dragons.
