Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This little hatchling lives in the lonely mountains, in a small cave overlooking a huge, snowy canyon. White as the snow that's ever present in his alpine home, he spends his days tending to his small berry garden and watching for weary travelers that make their way up the long, winding mountain pass that leads into the canyon. When he sees one, he'll make his way down the mountainside and appear by the tired travelers, his brilliant blue eyes staring at them calmly. "Why not take a detour," he'll say softly. They ask him why, but he stays silent, sapphire eyes as calm as ever. When they finally push on, unconvinced by him, he can only watch helplessly as the dangerous canyon claims another victim, another death. For only he knows of its quiet danger, its landslides, its avalanches. His greatest regret is that he cannot bring himself to speak about it, to tell the travelers why, for his parents died in that same canyon so many years ago, and he hasn't spoken a word about it ever since.
