Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

After disowning Mathrak, Hematesk found his already-limited thrall resources shortened further. Not wanting to be short on guards or workers—or company, he tends to quickly add—he sought a replacement. To his own satisfaction, it turned successfully, and the dragon hatched and grew without incident.

The new thrall, which came to be named Hidaavi, quickly proved herself quite capable, successfully turning a whiptail egg on her second day of adulthood (and of her position as one of Hematesk's guards). Not only did this impress her Master, but it also marked the first step in the creation of her own plans.

Unbeknownst to her Master, Hidaavi schemes to create a squad of her own thralls, use them to capture a large number of living dragons, and construct a sort of "cattle farm." Acts like these are expressly forbidden by law of the Eijj'Ari.
