Striped Dragons come in a dazzling array of colors complemented by an intricate pattern of stripes. These bright colors and patterns help attract their favorite food, insects. Because their prey is so tiny, striped dragons must spend a large portion of their day eating. The color of the offspring is usually determined by the dragon’s mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Dark of color and quiet of nature, this dragon shies away from the attention her mother and sisters-- and even her twin brother AEzip-- crave.  While Lightbell and her other daughters take their place at the bell of the human religious village at their chosen times of day, Ayrbell flies in the other direction, circling their home mountain over and over in the night before settling down at the peak to watch the sunrise and sleep.  An introspective soul, Ayrbell seeks only a solitary hermitage above the caves and bustle other dragons know.  It is not unusual for her to go years without a curious visitor or miles-away conversation with another dragon, perhaps a Skywing.  For they, like she, enjoy the airy solitude.
