Witchlight Dragons are silent, secretive beasts that haunt the most remote corners of the wilderness. They beguile their unsuspecting prey into peril by assaulting their perceptions of reality and stoking the fires of paranoia with masterfully-conjured illusions. Unwary travelers have been led astray by the soft, inviting glow of their eyes amidst a sea of encroaching darkness, never to be seen again. Those that survive a Witchlight Dragon’s psychic onslaughts do not escape unchanged: some believe that the apparitions these dragons summon to tempt or torment their victims awaken them to hidden truths about themselves.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Demubb is an idiot, hence his name. He's not a good hunter and often gives away his position; his illusions are always just a bit too simple to trick an intelligent creature like a dragon or human, and his lack of patience can mess him up even when he's performing a stellar hunt. If he weren't a semi-tame dragon, it's probable that he would have starved or been killed by now. Thankfully, his master saw a great opportunity with Demubb's incompetence: Demubb is often the first experience new dragon hunters have with witchlights and even psychic dragons in general. Demubb lives in a protected preserve where he is the largest dragon, owned by a famous dragon-hunting school. Students are taught how to recognize a witchlight's illusions and lights, and their typical behaviors and how they hunt in total safety. When the students are old enough, their first test is to subdue Demubb without injury. Being the fool he is, Demubb never seems to learn and skitters off back into his woods unshaken.
