Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It is very brightly colored and loves fruit.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This laid-back hatchling was minding his own business one day when he found himself snatched up by a cackling human, who promptly declared he would make a fine 'frozen.' Not wanting to become a popsicle, the poor little creature pleaded for his life but to no avail! That was when he discovered freezing didn't mean literal freezing, it simply meant he'd be eternally youthful, a fact he has no problem with. A whole life of everyone assuming you need to be taken care of and have no major responsibilities sounds awesome! ...Except for the whole early bedtime thing.
