Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Pannoowau is a friendly dragon whose favorite hobby is climbing trees. He likes challenging the other hatchlings to games to figure out who can climb the highest. He also dares them to climb up the tallest, most dangerous trees in the forest. The adult dragons disapprove of Pannoowau's behavior because they worry for the young hatchlings safety. Although it's true that he has wings, it doesn't guarantee he'll be safe; it's hard to navigate around tree branches. Don't worry though, this hatchling is a tree climbing professional.
