Blacktip Dragons are a small, shore-dwelling breed that tend to nest on sheer ocean side cliffs. They live in groups under a dominant female, who prevents her subordinates from breeding. During the mating season, a group of Blacktips can be very noisy and smelly indeed; males produce a distinctive musky odor and loud, low-pitched honking noises in an attempt to woo the alpha female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Aspid is one of the lowest, if not the lowest ranked Blacktip in the small group within the larger clan of dragons. Even when he was small he never fit in with the other coastal dragons thanks to his horrible allergy to fish and sensitivity to the salty ocean breeze. Residing further inland instead on along the rocky cliffs, Aspid is still kept up-to-date on the group's news and goings-on. But he has made many other friends within the larger clan, a whole menagerie of breeds and personalities. If the other Blacktips could look past his abnormalities, they might've discovered that Aspid is a great conversationalist and an honest, loyal dragon. He used to think his only goal in life was to woo that nasty Blacktip leader, but found that he'd rather have the company of the new assortment of friends he has made.
