Golden Wyverns are known for their beautiful metallic scales and rumored magical abilities. Living high in the mountains, these dragons do not believe in killing for sport or pleasure. They will hunt only when hungry and defend themselves when provoked, but will avoid killing to the best of their abilities. Golden Wyverns often mingle with other dragons of similar color and take pride in their shimmering hide.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A golden dragon with a gold heart, Kinko Shining is the baby sitter, or hatchling sitter, of her adopted family. She watches over them as the rest of the family hunts, and is always gentle with them. When they come of age and are close to maturing, she teaches the hatchlings the basics of hunting, bringing back live prey so that they can learn proper hunting techniques, and for those with wings, she teaches them how to read the air currents for a proper lift off. When the family separated into different clans, she remained at the home cave to care for the hatchlings who were too young for the move, and so became the Matriarch of the Mountain clan over time.
