Skywing Dragons spend most of their lives flying in the air. They hunt from the air, diving at prey from above, and land only to rest. They are some of the fastest fliers, capable of extremely high speeds. The webbing at the end of the tail acts as a rudder, allowing them to easily change direction during flight.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Porthos is one of 4 eggs that were discovered by an elderly tinker. As the tinker's eyes were aged with her years she actually thought it was a group of jewels, yet, once she touched them she knew not only what they were but that she had to raise them. Not knowing what to do with grown dragons she raised them to maturity to be the motley band of 'brothers' they are. She named them after characters in her favorite book. Unfortunatly as she thought them all to be male, Porthos is ill-named; however, as she was raised with love she does not mind. Her role in her 'family' is that of look out and is normaly seen in the lead making sure her family will not be surprised.
