Almerald Dragons are an unusual species. They have gem-like protrusions along their spine that brighten and darken depending on their mood. In addition, their body temperature grows warmer during periods of excitement, and cooler during darker moods such as anger or depression; as such, it is fairly easy to read an Almerald’s emotions. Their mood can change quickly at times, going from calm to angry in a matter of seconds. If their anger becomes bad enough they can become a frightening opponent. Adults are not normally high in energy, so they hunt infrequently and prefer to lazily consume large quantities of fruits and nuts.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Con Chin is one of the two rogue dragons residing in the mountains of Chilly Maw and therefore is a part of The Knight's test. Those who wish to become knights must fight him, and only then will they get recognition and title.

Legends tell that Con Chin is a child of titans, hence his size (little do they know that all Almeralds are like this...), and that the Spider Nations forced the dragon to create their cities, carve their homes and enchant their doors. After the Spider Nation fell, he ran to the Chilly Maw and declared himself free from anyone's reign. His teeth are a sign to fear, and some claim his blood is hotter when he's mad.

One knight once came to the Chilly Maw, determined to end the "Invincible Serpent", as the locals nicknamed him. He found Con Chin with a striped egg in his claws. As the dragon buried the egg in a safe spot, the hero realized—it was his egg, and that meant he had a mate. The knight himself was madly in love with a princess, so he let him go.
