When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Meeren was always the quiet type who rarely left his native waters, preferring more the ideals of home than the stress of wanderlust. When a strange dragon began soaring in the air above his lake, he watched first with intense curiosity. Flying was alien to him, and a small part of his heart longed to taste the wind. As the days passed, the dragon came to his lake more often, and Meeren grew bolder. One evening he lost his powers of restraint and quickly rose to the surface, arcing and swirling under the sinuous stranger above him. He found that his heart was racing in response to the stranger, and was overjoyed when she returned his affections. The two dragons invariably developed a deep bond. To this day Meeren is grateful to Wolken, for showing him what it means to truly soar, on wings that only love can provide.
