Nocturne Dragons are a strange breed. Whenever light strikes their bodies, they are frozen in whatever position they were in. This leaves them vulnerable and they rely on camouflage to keep themselves safe. They are often mistaken for statues when in this frozen state, but Nocturne dragons do not actually turn into stone. Rather, they merely idle until the sun goes down. At night, these dragons come to life, proving themselves to be powerful fliers, although little else is known about their true behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As an egg, Crying Night was left all alone, freezing and untouched for days. She wasn't even thought about until what she hoped would be her last moments. At that time, she felt intense heat all around her, and she felt as if she were being carried and moved about roughly. When she hatched, she was very ill, and kept longing for death as her owner slowly nursed her back to health. By the time she realized that she did want to live, she had successfully recovered and her owner plunged her into the dark life that her cave is surrounded by. Wandering about, Crying Night barely escaped the hatchling murderer, Vexen, after she had stumbled into his cave. In the same night, the killer Ice, Chaos, had approached her and slowly began to freeze her to death, as was his hobby. She was saved by the sudden appearance of an unknown Thunder dragon, and fled. As an adult, she trusts no dragon and refuses to be with only a few dragons. She has to be alone or in a large crowd to feel safe.
