Avatars of Change are unpredictable, exuberant dragons whose unique connection to magic has saturated their entire bodies. It is said that possessing one of their iridescent scales can change one’s fate, and many have sought the favor of these dragons hoping to receive a scale as a gift.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ukubasa, called Uko for short, is Mlezi's eldest daughter. For much of her youth she was raised by Tigerlily and the other magi dragons, in a way to hopefully make sure that her magic will not spiral out of control. Upon learning her father's role, Uko wondered if she should be like him and it began to trouble her until her magic became difficult to control, frustrating her. Despite it, Ukubasa is a good dragoness who really cares and wants to make her father proud as well as earn the respect he now has. She is watchful of her sisters, Nkulu and Mahoka, but gets into arguments with her little sister a lot.
