Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It spends its time pouncing on insects.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing. It is also now covered in brightly colored stripes.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Kishiru's name means "squeak" after her high-pitched voice.  She is a very bright, if not overly memorable hatchling.  She has learned to round up the bugs upon which she preys by using her wings to gust them into small areas.  Then she will use large leaves or strips of bark to trap them, allowing her to eat at her leisure.  Interestingly, Kishiru refuses to eat fireflies.  She will tell you it is because they are too beautiful to die for food, but she also admits fear that her stomach will begin glowing as theirs do.
