Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Mirrorheart is a very strange little dragon, and keeps to himself, living in the shadows of an abandoned cathedral. Most people leave him alone, thinking he has some disease that would lead the others of his kind to toss him from the nest, but this isn't true. He was made to leave because he is the dragon of prophecy, the dragon with the gift to see into people's hearts. Legend says that he will bring either great peace to the land, or great ruin... and so the elders have hidden him away so that darkness will not find him. But rumors have been spreading through the hills like wildfire, that a mad human king and his army have news of his whereabouts, and are coming. Whether the other silvers of the Nightsong tribe will be able to protect him, or whether the hero of legend will appear to defeat the crazed emperor, none know...

But rumor also has it that his aunt Nightpearl is going to combat the dark army, and that a human with fair hair and a broken necklace travels by her side...
