Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It spends its time pouncing on insects.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing. It is also now covered in brightly colored stripes.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Berret is anything but an easy to handle hatchling. Ever since her beloved grandmother died, Berret fights against any and everyone she meets. She never listens to her parents and instead regularly shouts at them, blaming them (and the whole world) for her gran's death. She is headstrong and aggressive and regularly beats up older hatchlings. The more observant dragons realise that she only ever beats up olders never younger or weaker ones and only ever those who bully the smallest and most helpless of the clan.

The only one able to calm her down is her best friend Lapilus, a shy young Earth dragon hatchling.
