It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Tiscnae (pronounced 'Tissnay') is a very gentle, very social purple dragon. She is an easygoing character, making friends with petty much everyone she comes across. She never gets angry, and is always very nice to other people. She shows especial care for purple dragon hatchlings, pampering them almost too much, making a great fuss over appearance. Tiscnae is reasonably well-learned, but prefers to spend her time talking with other dragons, especially her children, and reads very little of anything.

Tiscnae is considered a mother figure by pretty much every purple dragon in her cave. She is the oldest of their number, and every other was raised in large part by her, she being the accepted custodian of purple hatchlings. This is a position she takes little pride in, she simply enjoys it greatly. She is present in the memories of all her kind she has the fortune to meet, and every other dragon she will ever know.
