Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This is Billy; he's the eldest child in his family. Despite the fact that he's so shy and tiny, he wants to fight in a war just like his dad did. His dad is teaching him how to fight and defend himself. Billy knows a few good attack moves, but they're useless because he's so tiny and defenseless. Billy loves to pretend he's a great warrior dragon fighting against humans in a crusade.
