This breed of dragon was thought to exist only in legend. Although their name varies between cultures, they are often referred to as “Guardians of Nature.” They are able to channel the forces of fire, ice and lightning, which allows them to wield tremendous power. Seen very rarely, it is thought that they only become active when something is threatening the territory they have chosen to guard. In order to protect their chosen home, these dragons are incredibly adaptable; they have been seen everywhere from remote mountain ranges, to ancient forests, to the darkest depths of the ocean.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The soft tinkle of falling icicles, the rough crunching of flowing magma, and the sudden crack of thunder. These sounds herald the arrival of an egg summoned by three powerful dragons. A mage steps forward and picks up the warm egg, cradling it close as she whispers a name through the shell. The hatchling inside stirs, hearing the words, and soon after emerges from his egg to the awe of all observers. His violet scales shimmer gently in the moonlight, heralding the untold power of a myth brought to life.

Although he plays with the other hatchlings, he always has a reserved demeanor. Once grown, he continues to keep his distance, though he protects the clan with his powers. He confesses to the mage in secret that he fears his powers might harm the other dragons if used in too close of a proximity to them, and thus self-exile must be his fate. Although the mage sympathizes, she continues to introduce him to new dragons, hoping someday he might change his mind and return to the clan.
