This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

After much heartache and loneliness, Scarlet converted her first egg. To her joy, it hatched into a little dragoness who she named Amor (which means love in Latin). Unlike her mother, Amor only drinks the blood of small animals such as mice and birds. Amor is a loving and affectionate hatchling and loves to play with the other nocturnal hatchlings. When Amor became older, she started to feel attracted to some of the other female hatchlings in the cave. Despite her feelings towards the other young dragonesses in the cave, she has kept her feelings hidden, fearing what her mother might think of her if she expressed them. Amor is aware that she will never reach adulthood, and although she no longer ages physically, she is slightly more mature then the average hatchling. Amor is occasionally saddened by her frozen state. She knows that since she's frozen, eventually all of her friends and loved ones who are not will eventually become adults and lose interest in her.
