Royal Blue dragons are a nocturnal breed who prefer to live high in the mountains near slow-moving water that reflects the night sky. Although quite capable of defending themselves, they are peaceful by nature and will avoid a fight whenever possible.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

After a sudden influx of refugee hatchlings all proved shockingly ignorant about the night sky, Nightmage put decades of stargazing to use in constructing spells that would give them an illustrated tour of the wonders of the heavens. His first few tries were more likely to produce nightmares instead of a sense of wonder, as his artistic interpretations of constellations remained inexplicably terrifying despite several reworkings, but eventually he found the right blend of fact and fancy to accompany his talks. Now, generations of dragons can't look at the night sky for long without remembering Nightmage's soothing voice explaining about stars, meteorites, and the like. They remember his lectures with fondness and half-expect to see the constellations overlaid with his pictures.
