Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Berenay is the first non-magi dragon to become a member of the Goldenmage Assembly—not that she really wanted the honor.  She was perfectly happy just finding some occupation at Dragontown, since she got along well with humans and would still have been able to visit Lydeska as often as she wanted.  Lydeska was insistent that the Goldenmage Assembly accept Berenay as a member, however, and so Berenay is now one of the Assembly's teachers.  Berenay can't help feeling out of place, though.  Yes, Tynef and Dahoi have accepted her, as have some of the masters, but she can't help feeling that there's a vocal majority that would be just as glad to see her gone.  Berenay needn't worry, though.  She may be reluctant to speak up for herself, but there's a certain war mage and her seer friend (not to mention several others that would greatly surprise Berenay if she knew about them) who are dedicated to seeing that no harm comes to Berenay.
