Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Aethryl believes beyond a doubt that she possesses the wisdom of the ages. Claiming an understanding of the world deeper than that of mere mortals, this small dragon will appear before humans, dazzle them with the light of the sun reflected on her translucent wings, then offer some cryptic saying, such as "Consider the hail, which falls harshly, yet bears no malice", before disappearing again. Indeed, several humans living nearby claim to have been inspired by one of Aethryl's sayings. However, when asked to explain what they actually mean, she is at a loss. For all her supposed wisdom, Aethryl seems to lack the insight to know, for instance, when Trouble Wings is about to drop an insect onto her unsuspecting back.
