Originating from a single species that thrived in ancient times, Xenowyrms have become an incredibly diverse breed whose appearances vary depending on their habitats. Each Xenowyrm subspecies is heavily reliant on the power of different types of mana, making them powerful magic users. Chronos are often considered to be the most elusive of all Xenowyrm subspecies: they live in the darkest and densest forests, far from civilization. They are masters of time magic, allowing them to manipulate the flow of time at will. It is said that Chrono lairs are protected by a field of magic that makes the minutes tick by at a slow pace for any unwanted visitors.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

One summer's day, a young woman (who was also a dragon raiser) had ventured far from her home for the purpose of exploring beyond the borders of the land she calls home. Suddenly, the blue of the summer sky was blotted out by the clouds of an approaching storm, and the girl started to head for home as quick as she could. She first sought refuge in a nearby forest, where she happened upon a strange, glassy egg nestled between two fallen logs. Not seeing any sign of the mother dragon, she decided to take the egg home with her. Tucking the egg into her pack, she set off further into the forest in the hopes of making it home before the storm worsened.

This Chronos Xenowyrm is quite the prankster. While most of his kind use their time-manipulating ability as a defense mechanism, Sapphirewyrm often slows the flow of time if he comes across a dragon in a compromising position just to watch them squirm, usually adding a menacing taunt such as "You've met with a terrible fate, yes, you have."
