And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Bedeus believes that he has mastered the art of Dragon Magic. He believes his skills are of godly proportions, even though he has only succeeded in lighting a candle and using his telekinetic powers to lob a stone at a passing human. Because of these feats, he prances around with a self-assured sense of accomplishment, patting himself on the back all the time and whenever anything naturally occurs, such as a tree falling down or a dragon tripping over a rock, he'll surely say he made it all happen.
