Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

A small creature with plain color but high aspirations, this female eagerly awaits the day when she'll develop either the shiny colors of her father or the beautiful tan shades of her mother. Nobody quite has the heart to tell her that her purple hues are permanent rather than simply a result of her youth, which means a certain hatchling is going to have a very disappointing adolescence.
