Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It hatched with fins instead of legs and did not seem to react well to freshwater, so you relocated it to the nearest ocean.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

B0ttle really enjoys watching boats and ships going out to sea. She sometimes leaps out of the water to get a look at what is happening on board. Recently, when B0ttle was swimming after a particularly pretty ship, one of the humans on board dropped a glass object overboard. Upon closer inspection, she saw that it contained a miniature ship, and an extremely detailed one at that. Since then, she gave herself the name she heard humans use when referring to these items.

As her companions got older, B0ttle noticed that they were all beginning to move to deeper water, and avoiding the shallows. B0ttle became worried that some day she, too, would find the shallows uncomfortable. That would mean she'd never again be able to swim alongside ships, listening to the crews' stories and enjoying the sun. The prospect did not please her, so she asked Messenger, the human who raised her from an egg, to cast a spell on her and keep her a hatchling. Her request was granted.
